Sunny Saturday gets HOT

Fast Moving Brush Fire Threatens Homes

A warm Saturday Afternoon got a little tense for some residents in the Orange Blossom Estates Area. A stiff breeze fanned flames and pushed a fire quickly to about three archers before firefighters gained ground on it. Units from West Sebring, De Soto City, The City of Sebring, Sun N Lakes, and Florida Department of forestry spent all afternoon mopping up the area that flared up a few times through Monday Afternoon; no houses were damaged during the incident. As we shared in previous articles training is the number two priority at West Sebring and only falls number two behind operating safely the way we train. Keeping with our goals and priority’s five more of West Sebring Firefighters just finished a 40 hour class in Vehicle Extrication. The class sponsored and taught by Highlands County Fire Services was designed to cover the basics in safety at an accident scene, stabilization, and extrication.  Utilizing both classroom and hands on training to include basic hand tools, air bags, stabilizing struts and hydraulic tools.

This class was great class, our members had a great time and learned a lot. It was a great chance to go out and practice the skill we were learning and now we are better trained to assist our citizens on the ever busy highways of Highlands County.
